From Screens to Scenes: Holidays in Louisiana 2023
As the holiday season approaches, it's all too easy to become engrossed in the digital cocoon of social media, games, and anything screen-related - and start to miss out on the real enchantment that surrounds us.
Louisiana's communities are filled with unique festive offerings, and by turning off virtual entertainment for a while, we can embrace the warmth, connection, and genuine experiences that make this time of year truly special.
This holiday season, let's break free from the digital haze and rediscover the magic that awaits beyond the confines of our screens.
Here are some fun things to do in this festive season!
Christmas Eve Bonfires
Dec 24, 2023

Witness the levees become a hotspot with cars, locals, and tourists celebrating this fiery spectacle.
Why the flames? Locals say it's to guide Santa Claus (or Papa Noel, if you're in Cajun territory) on his reindeer-led journey. Best view? Cruise the River Roads by car or take a stroll along the levees. While the bonfire parties might be invite-only, if you're on foot, expect some cheery holiday greetings. It's a festive tradition lighting up the holidays in a blazing, unique style!
It is recommended that you get into the area before 6:00 PM. The fires will be lit at 7:00 PM. Try spending the afternoon, walking the levee, taking pictures, and touring the museum. Parking is available in lots along LA 641. Please do not park in lots that are roped off! There will be a 3 to 4-block walk to the levee. If you are interested in driving through, take LA 3213 to LA 44 (Exit before the bridge). This will take you to the first bonfire. Drive along River Road through Gramercy & Lutcher.
